How to properly set Dec motor rotation
« on: Monday, 26.05.14 - 15:34:25 - CEST »
This topic is meant to guide you through the settings of Dec motor rotation.

Starting from 1.5.3 release the driver properly moves the scope to N/S when you click on N/S by the ASCOM handbox, whatever the scope position.
So you can use the handbox itself to figure out if Dec motor rotation is correct. I'm assuming your scope is on the top (and the counterweights on the bottom).

1. Make the scope pointing to E above the horizon (if you're facing towards N then the scope is on your left and it's pointing to your right...).
2. Be sure the ASCOM handbox indicates that side of pier is W. If not you've to click on Invert dec button.
3. Keep the N button (of the ASCOM handbox) clicked; declination will start to increase.
4. The scope should be moving towards N Pole. If you see that the scope is moving towards S Pole then your dec motor rotation is wrong: if it's normal (respectively reverse) set it as reverse (respectively normal).

P.S. SideOfPier by ASCOM and by hardware handbox are the same only if Dec motor rotation is not reversed.

Thanks to the_lizardking for the translation to German! :)
